Select to Speak

We can have screen content on the OnePlus smartphone read aloud to us after it has been selected or tapped.

After activating the read aloud function, we also get another button in the navigation bar that offers the following options for controlling read aloud after tapping:

  • Tap on a specific element, for example on text or an image.
  • Drag your finger across the screen to select multiple items.
  • Tap the play button to hear everything on screen.
  • Select text that appears inside the camera view.

Step 1:  Open the  Settings
Step 2:  Tap on  System
Step 3:  Tap on  Accessibility
Step 4:  Tap on  Select to Speak
Step 5:  Enable or disable  Select to Speak
Step 6:  Tap on  Allow
Step 7:  Confirm with  Got it

Speech output (Select to Speak)

Similar to the TalkBack function, we can alsoadjustthe speech output for reading aloud and select the language or increase or decrease the reading speed or pitch using sliders.

Note: In this manual we only increase the speaking speed, other options are available.

Step 1:  Open the  Settings
Step 2:  Tap on  System
Step 3:  Tap on  Accessibility
Step 4:  Tap on  Select to Speak
Step 5:  Open the  Settings
Step 6:  Tap on  Text to speech settings
Step 7:  Set the  Language  or swipe to adjust the  Speech rate  or  Pitch

Read in background (Select to Speak)

When using the Select to speak function, we can, thanks to this feature, switch between different apps without interrupting the current reading on the OnePlus smartphone.

Note: This is an experimental feature that may not be fully mature and may contain errors.

Read text on images

We can have text in pictures or in the camera viewfinder read aloud if this function is enabled on the OnePlus smartphone.

Note: Please note that this is an experimental feature and may not work properly.
