The OnePlus smartphone can serve as a personal WiFi hotspot to provide an Internet connection to other devices such as PCs, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

For security reasons, we can assign a personal name and password to the private WiFi hotspot, thus protecting the hotspot from unauthorised access by third parties.

Step 1:  Open the  Settings
Step 2:  Tap on  Wi-Fi & network
Step 3:  Tap on  Hotspot & tethering
Step 4:  Tap on  Wi-Fi hotspot
Step 5:  Enable or disable  Wi-Fi hotspot

Hotspot band

All smartphones support the Wi-Fi band below 2.4 GHz, while newer devices also support 5.0 GHz, which guarantees significantly faster data throughput, but has to make some concessions in the range.

The personal Wi-Fi hotspot on the OnePlus smartphone offers a choice of 2.4 or 5.0 GHz, and depending on which devices connect, we can use 5.0 GHz for faster network transmission.

Step 2:  Tap on  Wi-Fi & network
Step 3:  Tap on  Hotspot & tethering
Step 4:  Tap on  Wi-Fi hotspot
Step 5:  Tap on  AP Band
Step 6:  Select  2.4 GHz Band  or  5.0 GHz Band
Step 7:  Tap on  Apply

  5. Tap on AP Band
  6. Select 2.4 GHz Band or 5.0 GHz Band

Set up Wi-Fi hotspot

The OnePlus smartphone's personal Wi-Fi hotspot can be configured with its own network name and a password that you set yourself to prevent unauthorized third-party access.
It does not matter what your own hotspot is called or whether the password consists only of numbers or letters in upper and lower case.

Step 1:  Open the  Settings
Step 2:  Tap on  Wi-Fi & network
Step 3:  Tap on  Hotspot & tethering
Step 4:  Tap on  Wi-Fi hotspot
Step 5:  Tap on  Hotspot name
Step 6:  Enter the  Hotspot name  and tap  OK
Step 7:  Tap on  Hotspot password
Step 8:  Enter the  Hotspot password  and tap  OK

  3. Tap on Hotspot & tethering
  4. Tap on Wi-Fi hotspot
  5. Tap on Hotspot name
  6. Enter the Hotspot name and tap OK
  7. Tap on Hotspot password
  8. Enter the Hotspot password and tap OK

Turn off Wi-Fi Hotspot automatically

The OnePlus smartphone can automatically deactivate the personal Wi-Fi hotspot if no other devices such as laptops, tablets or smartphones are connected after 5 minutes to save battery power.

The automatic deactivation only takes effect if there is no device in the network of the personal hotspot. As long as at least one device is connected, it remains active.
