Disable lock screen
If you want to do without any security for your data, you can deactivate the Samsung device's lock screen: pressing the power button activates the screen and immediately displays the start screen.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Screen lock type
- Tap on None
Set a Lock screen
Different types of lock screen are available depending on the Samsung device and model. The display lock prevents unauthorised persons from using the device and thus protects data. At the same time, it is the only way to unlock the device. If the unlock password, PIN or pattern is forgotten, access to the device is denied. The following types of lock screen are available on Samsung:
- None (device not secured)
- Swipe (device not secured)
- Pattern (Medium safety)
- PIN (Medium security)
- Password (high security)
- Face (Medium security)
- Fingerprint (Medium Security)

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Screen lock type
- Choose between Swipe, Pattern, PIN and Password
- Enter desired PIN and tap on Continue
- Enter the PIN again and confirm with OK
- Tap on Done
Face recognition
If we have registered a face on the Samsung device, we can use it to unlock the lock screen.
Even if a face is registered on the device, by default it is not used to unlock the lock screen. For this to work, face unlocking must first be activated.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Screen lock type
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Face
- If no face is registered yet, follow the instructions on the screen
Use Fingerprint to Unlock
If a lock screen is set up with a pattern, PIN, or password, the fingerprint sensor can also be used to unlock the Samsung device. Multiple fingerprints can be added.
This guide shows how to enable fingerprint unlock if a fingerprint has already been registered, but if no fingerprint has been registered yet, the machine will request one.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Screen lock type
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Fingerprints
- If no fingerprint is registered yet, follow the instructions on the screen
Auto factory reset
In the "Secure lock settings", there is an option "Auto factory reset" to factory settings. 15 incorrect attempts to unlock the Samsung device via the display lock will automatically reset the device to factory settings and all data will be deleted.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Secure lock settings
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Auto factory reset
Auto-Lock Time
The Samsung device is automatically locked when the display is turned off. One UI from Samsung offers the possibility to set a timer that starts when the display is turned off. If the device is turned on again within the set timer, the device will be unlocked automatically. Unlocking by means of the display lock is therefore unnecessary. "Lock automatically" can be set from 5 seconds up to 30 minutes.
Note: "Lock automatically" is useless when Smart Lock is enabled.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Secure lock settings
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Tap on Lock automatically
- Choose desired Time
Lock instantly with Side key
If a Lock screen has been set up, the Samsung device is locked immediately when the on/off button is pressed. When the display is switched back on directly, the password, PIN or pattern is then requested. If the "Lock automatically" function is used, this function can be switched off to save having to unlock it again.
Note: Depending on the model, the function key is meant instead of the on/off key.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Secure lock settings
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Lock instantly with Side key
Make pattern visible
By default, the pattern input is visible on the lock screen of the Samsung device, which means that other people can also "read" the pattern, but to increase the security of the pattern, the pattern or input can also be made invisible.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Secure lock settings
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Make pattern visible
Lockdown Mode
Smart Lock, Face Detection or even the fingerprint sensor pose a certain security risk, and these unlock methods can be temporarily overridden by an additional button, requiring the entry of the password, pattern or PIN.
The button is displayed on the Samsung device after activation in the power on/off menu.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Secure lock settings
- Enter your Lock screen Password/PIN/Pattern
- Enable or disable Show Lockdown option
Smart Lock
Samsung devices support Android's built-in "Smart Lock" feature, which allows devices to be unlocked automatically when operations are performed. This includes, for example, wearer identification, trusted locations or trusted devices. If the Samsung device is identified as being near "home" or connected to the car you already know via Bluetooth, for example, it does not need to be unlocked. However, this also means that roommates, visitors or anyone else can access the device.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Lock screen
- Tap on Smart Lock
- Enter your current PIN/Password/Pattern
