Prevent certain Apps using WiFi/mobile data

We can also specify that apps on the Xiaomi smartphone can only access the mobile data (or WLAN), and if we allow an app to connect to the mobile data only, the mobile network will be used even if the WLAN connection is active.

Note: If we use dual SIM on the device, we can set the setting for each SIM card individually.

App permission for Location

We can view and edit the location usage of apps on the Xiaomi smartphone. If an app has been granted location usage, we can revoke that permission at any time if desired. The following location access options can be set individually for each app:

  • Always Allow
  • Allow access only while using the app
  • Reject

Individual system app settings

The System App Preferences offers settings options for the standard Xiaomi smartphone apps, including: updates for System Maps, Tasks, Notes, Quick Apps, Cloud, Call Preferences, Contacts, Messages, Calendar, Security, Camera, Photos, Music, Browser, Recorder.

Here we can make app-specific settings, such as sorting contacts in the Contacts app, or (de)activating call forwarding in the call settings.

Note: In this guide we will only navigate to the overview mentioned above, further options are available after selecting the app.

App permissions

We can manage the permissions of the installed apps on the Xiaomi device and enable/disable requested access, but we can change this later, even though we are asked the first time we launch an app or function, if we want to allow App-XY to access the contacts, for example.

Full Screen Mode for Certain Apps

On the Xiaomi smartphone, we can allow individual apps to start in full screen mode. if we want to disable this feature, we can set the setting for each app individually. the Xiaomi device also suggests which apps work well and not well in full screen mode.

Autostart

We can set the autostart of apps on the Xiaomi smartphone separately, so services are loaded automatically at device startup.

Note: The actual app is not started, only app-specific services and functions are loaded in the background.

Modify System settings

We use various apps on our Xiaomi smartphone that require or request permission to change system settings, among other things. In this submenu we can remove apps that already have permission.

Restrict data usage

Apps installed on the Xiaomi smartphone have permission to use mobile data and Wi-Fi by default. If you don't want to use data over a network, you can adjust this in the app settings. For dual-SIM smartphones, we can also allow or deny the use of the individual SIM cards.

Display Pop-up windows

Facebook's Messenger or our Messages app is a good example of "Show over other apps". Under MIUI, this feature is called "Display Pop-up windows while running in the background.

In this case, the app on the Xiaomi smartphone has the authorization to show itself over other apps. In which form depends on the app itself. Apps can show themselves over other apps with a small pop-up, a video player, or as mentioned in the example, a round circle with profile photos of the individual Facebook chats.

Note: This permission is only visible when it is requested by an app.
