Home screen Assistant

For example, the Info Assistant or Google Discover keeps us informed about stocks, or shortcuts, but if it is disabled, updates can no longer be received on the Xiaomi device.

Note: The Info Assistant/Google Discover maps can be accessed by moving all pages of the start screen to the right, that is, the far left.

Change theme

We can change the theme on the Xiaomi device and customize it to our liking. In addition to the start and lock screens, the system with the icons is also customized. By default, we find two themes to choose from, "Classic" and "Limitless". If we change a theme, we can decide whether the above points should be customized.

Note: The background of the start and lock screen can still be changed.

Transition effect

When we change the home screen, the page is moved to the left or right by default, but there are other wipe or transition effects that we can set on the Xiaomi smartphone. The following options are available

  • Sliding
  • Crossfade
  • Tumble
  • Page
  • Cascade
  • Rotate
  • Cube

Blur effect in App Preview

The Blur effect softens the open apps in the preview of the Xiaomi device, meaning that neither textures nor fonts are visible. Blurring is recommended for applications with personal data, such as online banking apps. The Blur effect can be set individually for each app.

Note: in this tutorial we will activate the Blur effect for the Preferences app and then open the app preview to see the applied effect.

Layout

We can adjust the layout of the home screen on the Xiaomi smartphone and display 5x5 app icons instead of the 4x6 arranged app icons.

Suggestion (Recent apps menu)

When we open the recent app menu on the Xiaomi smartphone, we can see suggestions for features and access them directly. The following features are available by default:

  • Cleaner
  • Security scan
  • Deep cleaning
  • Manage Apps

Note: In this guide, we will activate the suggestions and open the App toggle to display the features mentioned.

Add page

We can customize the Xiaomi smartphone's splash screen to suit our needs. We can move apps to folders to keep order, or we can add an extra page to the splash screen and access our apps from there. To create a new page, we simply move an app to the edge of the screen.

Note: To remove a page, all we have to do is move or split all apps to other pages, empty pages will be removed automatically.

Lock home screen

We can lock the Xiaomi smartphone's home screen to not allow any changes to the layout editing or shaking to fill empty cells.

Set default home screen

We can set the Xiaomi smartphone's default home screen for quick access to the most important apps or folders. If we tap the home button in the navigation bar, we will be redirected to this defined page.

Memory status

In the app switcher on the Xiaomi smartphone, we can view the current usage of Memory/RAM. This feature is useful for checking the current state of memory. We can enable/disable this feature, but it has no effect on the background apps.

Note: In this tutorial we will activate the RAM info, go back to the home screen and start the app switcher, where the current RAM is shown.

Browse home screen

If we swipe up on the home screen, the search opens by default; if we don't need this feature on the Xiaomi device, we can turn it off.

Note: The search is only available if the App-Drawer is disabled.

Edit app vault shortcuts

We can add, delete, or move app vault shortcuts on the Home screen to customize access to them according to our needs or personal use. We can add up to eight shortcuts selected from different categories, such as Social Media, Entertainment, Security, or Tools.

Note: In this tutorial we will only add a shortcut, but it is possible to move and delete the individual shortcuts.
