Add Access Point Names (APN)
For mobile Internet on the Xiaomi device, a correct access point, also known as an APN, is required. This is usually installed automatically when you connect to your network provider for the first time. However, the correct APN data is not always created, which means that you have to adjust or create it manually. Some network
providers also offer the APN data as a configuration file, which is sent to the Xiaomi smartphone as an SMS and installs itself automatically. The APN
data and/or configuration file can be found on the network provider's website.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Tap on Access Point Names
- Tap on New APN
- Enter the appropriate data
- Tap on More
- Tap on Save
Delete access point names (APN)
If we have entered the wrong access point or no longer need it, we can simply delete it from the Xiaomi smartphone.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Tap on Access Point Names
- Open the APNs menu
- Tap on More
- Tap on Delete APN
Preferred Network Type
We can choose the preferred network type of the SIM card, for example, if there is no or very poor reception under 4G/LTE, we can switch to 3G in order to remain reachable.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Tap on Preferred network type
- Choose Prefer LTE / 3G or 2G only
Select network manually
By default, automatic network selection is activated, but if we are abroad and have poor reception on the network we have selected, we can search the network manually.
Note: The network selection may cause additional costs.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Tap on Mobile networks
- Disable Automatically select network
- Tap on Next
- Confirm with OK
- Select a network
Select network automatically
If we've disabled automatic network selection on the Xiaomi smartphone, we can easily enable it again by selecting the SIM card individually if dual SIM is used.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Tap on Mobile networks
- Enable Automatically select network
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
There are many reasons to set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network), including encrypting data, bypassing location blocking and concealing traces on the network, so if a valid VPN server is available, it can be easily connected to or set up on the Xiaomi smartphone.
Note: In order to save the VPN settings, we need to create a lock-screen password if it is not available.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Connection & sharing
- Tap on VPN
- Tap on Add VPN
- Enter the appropriate data
- Tap on Save
- Enable VPN
DNS Server
Depending on the model, DNS may or may not be available on the Xiaomi smartphone. By default, the function is already set to "Automatic", but it can also be turned off. You can also use your own DNS server.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Connection & sharing
- Tap on Private DNS
- Choose Off, Automatic or Private DNS provider hostname
- Tap on Save
VoLTE
By default, calls are made over the 2G or 3G network, depending on reception; if we enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on the Xiaomi smartphone, calls are made over the 4G data network, which improves voice quality, speeds up call setup and conserves battery life.
Note: If the menu item is not visible on the Xiaomi device, we can unlock it by entering *#*#86583#*#* on the phone app's dial pad.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on SIM cards & mobile networks
- Choose a SIM card (Dual SIM)
- Enable or disable Use VoLTE
