Switch to Speaker Automatically

With this feature enabled, the Xiaomi smartphone will automatically switch to speakers when moved away from the ear during a call. TalkBack must be enabled for this feature to work.

Note: This function can be found under the menu item/section "Experimental", which indicates that it may not be fully developed and probably does not work properly or is adapted to the entire Android system.

TalkBack voice output

The speech output of TalkBack on the Xiaomi smartphone can be completely customized by different settings, for example, we can change the language, adjust the speaking speed or set the pitch.

Note: in this manual we only change the speaking rate or voice pitch by means of sliders. this manual is for illustration purposes only. further options are available in the same menu item.

Speak passwords

We can decide for ourselves whether passwords should be pronounced on the Xiaomi smartphone using the TalkBack function, which is good for checking, but also has the disadvantage that listeners may be able to access our data, thus posing a security risk.

TalkBack navigation

Besides the changed navigation, after activating the TalkBack function, we find additional settings on the Xiaomi smartphone to make TalkBack even more user-friendly. The following options are available:

  • Selection by tapping once
  • Display context menu as list
  • Touch gestures
  • Selection
  • Key combinations
  • Custom Labels

Note: In this guide we will only disable selection by typing once, other options can be accessed the same way.

Turn on TalkBack

When we activate TalkBack on the Xiaomi device, we get voice feedback and can use the phone without looking at the screen, which is especially useful for people with impaired vision or even blindness.

If we activate TalkBack, the operation of the smartphone changes as follows:

  • Wipe right or left to switch between items.
  • Double tap an item to select it.
  • Drag with two fingers to scroll.

Note: After activating TalkBack, a watermark is displayed by default to inform us that it has been deactivated. We will also deactivate the TalkBack watermark in the following step (note the new gesture control).

TalkBack Feedback

The Xiaomi smartphone's TalkBack feature gives us haptic and acoustic feedback after each input by default. vibration feedback and sound feedback can be disabled if desired. we can
also adjust the volume of sounds and turn audio ducking on/off to turn down other audio sources during voice input.

Note: In this guide we only disable vibration feedback, other options can be accessed in the same way.

Turn off TalkBack

In this guide, we will concentrate on deactivating the TalkBack function on the Xiaomi smartphone again and will pay attention at the changed operation.

Note: These instructions only serve to deactivate TalkBack if the navigation is forgotten or the function is activated by mistake.
