Pocket mode in camera app

This feature of the Xiaomi smartphone allows you to lock the touch gestures when the device is placed in a pocket.

Show grid lines

If we take a lot of photos with the Xiaomi smartphone and want to get a little orientation for the perfect snapshot, we can activate the grid lines. This feature helps us to align the camera straight and find a good cut of the horizon. The grid is divided into 3x3 boxes.

Watermark

By default, the Xiaomi device adds a device watermark to each photo, indicating which device was used to take the image. The watermark is added at the bottom left of the photo. If we don't want this on our photos, we can always turn the feature off.

Save previous mode

The Xiaomi device can remember which camera mode we last used so that we don't have to switch between the different modes the next time we start the camera app. We can turn this setting on and off as we please.

Save location information

If you wish, we can save the location of each photo or video shot. This way, we can, for example, better allocate the holiday photos if it's not quite clear where exactly the shot was taken. By default, this function is disabled on the Xiaomi device.

Time stamp on photos

We can add a timestamp to the photos we take. The Xiaomi smartphone will add the current date and time. The timestamp is displayed in the lower right corner on photos.

Volume buttons function

If we press the volume buttons in the Xiaomi smartphone's camera app, the shutter countdown or timer is selected by default. If, for example, we would prefer a zoom function, we can change the button assignment. The following options are available to us:

  • Shutter
  • Shutter countdown
  • Zoom
  • Volume (System)

Change picture quality

We can change the picture quality of the Xiaomi smartphone's camera app. Normally, we always want the highest possible resolution and quality of the photos we take, but sometimes it makes sense to reduce the quality, for example to minimize the file size. We have the following three choices:

  • High
  • Standard
  • Low

Camera frame (4:3/16:9)

By default, the picture format is set to 4:3, but if we want to stream the photos/pictures to an HDTV and start a slide show, a 16:9 format is more sensible in order not to have black bars. Moreover, the Xiaomi devices offer a sufficiently large display in order to be able to shoot the photos better. Depending on the device, we have the following options:

  • 1:1
  • 4:3
  • 16:9
  • Full

Front camera mirroring

If the Xiaomi smartphone takes mirrored selfies, we can disable this feature, but normally you won't notice it unless there's writing in the background or rooms get a completely different perspective.

Save to SD card

If a microSD card is inserted in the Xiaomi device, photos or videos that have been taken can be automatically saved to the SD card by turning the feature on.

Contrast, saturation & sharpness

We have more setting options in the camera app of the Xiaomi smartphone, which allows us to adjust the contrast, saturation and sharpness in different levels. There are seven levels in total, from "Lowest" to "Highest", for contrast & saturation and three levels for sharpness, from "Low" to "Normal" to "High".

Note: In this manual we will change the value of the contrast, other options can be reached the same way.
