Set up Screen lock
To protect our Xiaomi smartphone from accidental navigation or unauthorized access, we can activate a screen lock. To do this, we can set a secure unlock method, which we can set by entering a pattern, PIN or password.
Note: In this manual we will set a screen lock with the unlock method "Pattern". Other options can be accessed the same way. Please follow the instructions on the screen.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Passwords & security
- Tap on Screen lock
- Choose Pattern, PIN or Password
- Tap on Got it
- Enter the pattern, PIN or password and tap Continue
- Enter the pattern, PIN or password again and tap OK
- Choose Add or Cancel
Disable Screen Lock
If we want to deactivate the screen lock again, we only need the currently defined unlock method (pattern, PIN, password). The Xiaomi smartphone is not protected against unauthorized access by deactivating the screen lock.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Passwords & security
- Tap on Screen lock
- Enter the current pattern, PIN or password
- Tap on Turn off screen lock
- Tap on OK
Unlock with fingerprint
The Xiaomi device has a fingerprint sensor that we can set up to unlock the phone, authorize purchases, or log in. It doesn't matter which fingerprint we add; if an unlock method has been previously set by pattern, PIN, or password entry, we will need to know the unlock method prior to setup.
Note: To activate the unlock method by fingerprint, a display lock via PIN, password or pattern must be set up.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Passwords & security
- Tap on Fingerprint unlock
- Enter the current pattern, PIN or password
- Place the finger on the fingerprint sensor and follow the instructions on screen
Bluetooth unlock
If this feature is enabled on the Xiaomi smartphone, the device will unlock as soon as it is near the Bluetooth device, and the Xiaomi will remain unlocked until the Bluetooth connection is disconnected.
Note: Currently, the Xiaomi smartphone only supports in-house Bluetooth devices, such as a Mi Band Smartwatch.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Passwords & security
- Tap on Unlock with Bluetooth device
- Enable Unlock device
- Enter the current pattern, PIN or password and follow the instructions on screen
Face Unlock
The Xiaomi smartphone can store 2D facial data, which, thanks to the front camera, can be used to unlock the device. Before setting up, we are warned that the device can be unlocked with a photo, or a person with a similar appearance. Whether this function should be activated and used is up to everyone.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Passwords & security
- Tap on Face unlock
- Enter the current pattern, PIN or password
- Tap on Next and follow the instructions on screen
