Portable hotspot

Our Xiaomi smartphone can serve as a portable hotspot to provide Internet access to other devices through its own Wi-Fi network. Additional settings are provided, so when we set up the phone, we can edit the name of this network and create our own password.

Note: These instructions only show how to switch on or off the portable WLAN hotspot.

Set Data limit

If we activate the portable Wi-Fi hotspot on the Xiaomi smartphone, we can set a one-time data limit and determine whether we will only be notified when the provided data limit is exceeded or whether the personal hotspot should be deactivated.

Turn off Wi-Fi hotspot automatically

As the title suggests, the Xiaomi smartphone can automatically disable the personal hotspot when no devices are connected.

Note: We recommend enabling this feature to save battery power in case it is forgotten.

Set up hotspot

We can enter a custom name and password for the personal hotspot on the Xiaomi smartphone to prevent unauthorized access, and devices that want to connect to our Wi-Fi hotspot will need the chosen password.

Limit of connected devices

By default, we can allow an unlimited number of devices to use the hotspot on our Xiaomi smartphone, but if we want to set a limit to get a little more control, we can set a maximum limit on connected devices.

Set band for WiFi hotspot

All Xiaomi smartphones support the WiFi band below 2.4GHz. Newer models also support 5.0GHz, which enables faster data transfer. If this feature is supported by your own device, you can also choose it for the enabled personal hotspot or access point.
