OnePlus How to Set up the Mobile Network

Access Point Name (APN)
The access point names (APNs) are necessary to use the mobile data and MMS services on the OnePlus smartphone.
Normally, we receive the APN settings automatically or via configuration message as soon as a new SIM card is inserted into the device and registered in the respective provider network.
In case the access points are incorrect or are not received automatically, we can add them manually.
Note: Many network operators also offer an overview of APNs (Access Point Names) on their own website.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Choose a SIM card
- Tap on Access Point Names
- Tap on Add
- Enter the appropriate data
- Open the menu
- Tap on Save
Delete Access Point Name (APN)
If the wrong access points (APNs) have been entered on the OnePlus smartphone, we can easily delete them again.
Note: It is also recommended to delete unneeded access points, for example after changing providers.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Choose a SIM card
- Tap on Access Point Names
- Choose an APN
- Open the menu
- Tap on Delete APN
Private DNS
If we configure a private DNS on the OnePlus smartphone, this increases network security because the data is received and sent over an encrypted channel.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on Private DNS
- Choose Automatic or Private DNS provider hostname and enter the appropriate data
- Tap on Save
VPN (Virtual Private Network)
If a VPN connection is configured on the OnePlus smartphone, our data is encrypted, traces on the network are hidden or the location block is bypassed.
If a valid VPN server is available, it can be set up on the OnePlus device at any time.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on VPN
- Tap on Add
- Enter the appropriate data and tap Save
Select network manually
For example, if we are abroad for business reasons or on vacation, the OnePlus smartphone automatically dials into a foreign network.
If reception in this provider network is rather poor, we can select the network manually. In this case, the automatic system is switched off and all available networks are searched for, so that we can then select the network ourselves.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Choose a SIM card
- Tap on Network operators
- Disable Choose automatically
- Confirm with OK
- Choose an available network
Select network automatically
If the automatic network selection on the OnePlus smartphone has been deactivated, for example because we were in another country, we can reactivate it at any time.
In this case, the device dials or registers itself in the network of our standard provider.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Choose a SIM card
- Tap on Network operators
- Confirm with OK
- Enable Choose automatically
VoLTE calls
By default, the OnePlus smartphone uses the 2G and 3G network to make calls.
If we enable VoLTE (Voice over LTE), calls will be made over the 4G network when available, which provides better voice quality and faster call setup.
Note: Using VoLTE calls also reduces battery consumption.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Choose a SIM card
- Enable or disable VoLTE
Preferred network type
The network mode or preferred network type is set by default to automatically search for 2G/3G/4G to achieve the best possible data connection and voice quality.
For example, if we have poor to moderate 4G reception area by area with the OnePlus smartphone, we can set the network mode ourselves to use the full width of the 3G network.
Note: If you experience reception problems during calls or phone calls, you can try setting the network mode to 2G to see if the problem is with network coverage.

- Open the Settings
- Tap on Wi-Fi & network
- Tap on SIM & network
- Tap on Preferred network type
- Choose 2G/3G/4G (Automatic), 2G/3G (Automatic) or 2G only
