Turn On/Off Emergency Location Service (ELS) auf Android
Emergency Location Service (ELS) is a background function in Android that works independently from your regular location settings.
When you place an emergency call, ELS can turn on location detection for a short period, even if you have disabled Location services or Google's location accuracy features. This lets first responders receive your approximate position without you doing anything at the time of the call.
The setting sits inside the location menu, separate from the general location toggle. Disabling ELS does not affect normal location access for apps; it only controls whether emergency services can trigger location sharing during calls to emergency numbers.
To check or change the setting: Tap on Settings ➔ Tap on Location ➔ Tap on Location services ➔ Tap on Emergency Location Service ➔ Enable or disable Use Emergency Location Service.
Turning ELS off can matter for privacy reasons, but it may delay rescue teams locating you during a genuine emergency. If your main concern is everyday location tracking by apps, adjust the general Location toggle or per-app permissions instead. ELS only affects emergency call scenarios.
