Text keypad has disappeared

A few weeks ago the text keypad on my Doro Liberto 820 Mini suddenly disappeared and was replaced by an icon of a microphone. The only way I can now send a "text" message is to speak into the phone, which isn't acceptable. I can no longer type in the text a character at a time. When I go to Settings, "Language and input", "Keyboard & input methods" it says the default is "Automatic - Google voice typing". There is no other option given. Is there any way of restoring text input other than a factory reset which I am reluctant to do for obvious reasons.

Thanks for your reply. I've never heard of Gboard keyboard and I've never had to install it before. I can't see it in Play Store and I can't search for it because I can't type that text into the search box. Also, it says "Google voice typing cannot be used for this field"!  Any ideas?

    Hi Bextonian.

Can you tap on the link in my first reply and possibly install it, then find out the possible cause?

I did as you suggested and tried to install it. It insisted on me signing in first but I was unable to do that without having text input. I've tried to sign in several times with Google voice input but couldn't get it to work. When I tried to say my email address it insisted on putting "at" instead of "@" and when I tried to say my phone number it insisted on putting "to 22" instead of "222". Thanks for your efforts but I think I'm just going to have to give up on this one. Perhaps a factory reset is the only way forward.
