I cannot find a way of activating the app drawer so as to remove app icons from the home pages

Sorry I don't have an Oukitel here to check for myself, but please try to long-press an empty space on the home screen and enter the settings.

Cracked it. The problem seems to be the functionality of Launcher which comes as default. Installing Launcher3 with Play Store and setting it as Default Home App gives me the App Drawer access for installation and deletion of App Icons I was looking for!
Hello Ckwrightphd, then the standard launcher will not support it and you will be forced to use a different launcher.
