Phone can't detect SIM card

Insert nanoSIM card into slot and phone says 'NO SIM detected'. How do I solve the problem?

    Hello, is the SIM card inserted correctly? has the SIM card ever been used in another smartphone where it has worked before?

    I used the SIM card in an old IPhone 5s I had and it worked in that. When I tried inserting the SIM card into the Ulefone S1 I tried inserting it with the network logo facing upside down, then down side up and flipped it over and then tried to clean it with a tissue, turning it off and then back on when I re-inserted it. Then I toggled radio on and off and then airplane mode on and off and none of these methods worked.
