Export Contacts

Huawei's Contacts app keeps the export function simple, almost too simple: there's no way to export a single contact, only the entire list at once. If you just need to back up one number, EMUI still bundles all your contacts into one VCF file before you can share or store it. That behavior often confuses people looking to transfer just a few entries.

Hide or Show Caller-ID

If your phone number keeps showing up on the other person's display even though you would rather stay anonymous, EMUI is still following your carrier's default caller-ID setting. The same issue works in reverse: if calls go out as 'unknown' when you actually want your number visible, that same setting is the cause. On dual SIM devices, each SIM slot keeps its own separate configuration.

Delete Call History

If missed calls or dialed numbers keep piling up in your Huawei call log, you can clear single entries or wipe the entire list at once. Deleting the history removes calls, messages logs, and missed call records permanently, with no way to restore them afterward. This makes it worth checking which entries you actually want to keep before confirming.

Copy an SMS Message

Need to save the exact wording of a Huawei text message without retyping it, or drop part of a conversation into an email or note? Long-pressing a message in the Messages app brings up several options, and it is not always obvious which one copies the text without deleting or forwarding it. Picking the wrong option can remove the message from the thread or forward it instead of copying it to your clipboard.

Add Contact Shortcut to Home Screen

Every time you need to call your parents or message a close friend, digging through the Contacts app costs time. Huawei lets you pin a contact straight to the home screen as a shortcut, so a single tap opens the contact, starts a call, or opens a message thread. This works for one contact at a time, and you can repeat it for as many people as you need.

Import Contacts

If your contacts are scattered across a VCF file, an old SIM card or a file you got over Bluetooth, your Huawei phone will not merge them into one list on its own. You have to tell the Contacts app which source to read and where the entries should end up, on the device itself or in your Google account. Skip that step and the numbers simply stay locked in the file you received.

Power button ends call setting

When you press the power button during an active call on your Huawei phone, the call cuts off instead of just locking the screen. This happens because a hidden calling option lets the power button double as a hang-up key. If you never turned this on, an accidental grip on the side of the phone can drop calls without warning.

Send an MMS with Photo or Video Attachments

Trying to send a photo or video in a text message on your Huawei phone but not sure if it goes through as an MMS? Attaching a file to a conversation in the Messages app automatically switches the message type, but the option is easy to miss if you only look for a text-only send button. This guide shows where the attachment control sits and what happens once you tap send.

Add Emergency Contacts

When Emergency SOS gets turned on for the first time on a Huawei phone, EMUI only sets up one emergency contact by default. If a fall or crash triggers an SOS alert later, that single contact might not be the person who can respond fastest. Many users never notice that up to three emergency contacts can actually be stored.

Reject a Call with a Quick Response Message

When you can't take a call but still want the caller to know why, a plain decline leaves them guessing. On Huawei phones running EMUI, the incoming call screen offers a message option that sends a short text back instead of just hanging up. This way the caller gets an automatic reply like 'Calling you back later' without you saying a word.

Delete a Calendar Event

When an event no longer applies or two appointments overlap, you need to remove it from the Calendar app on your Huawei phone. If the event repeats, EMUI asks whether to delete only this occurrence or every future instance of the series. Picking the wrong option can wipe out appointments you still need.

Add More Details to a Contact

If your contact list only shows a name and phone number, you are missing space for details like birthdays, addresses or website links. On Huawei phones, this extra information lives on the same contact card, but the fields for it stay hidden until you open edit mode. Many users never notice they exist.

Delete a Single Entry from the Call List

Clearing your entire call history wipes out every logged call at once, even the ones you still needed. On Huawei phones the Phone app also lets you remove just one entry, so the rest of your history stays intact.

Send an SMS Message

On Huawei phones, SMS and MMS no longer appear as separate message types in the inbox. As soon as you attach a photo or another file, the message automatically switches from a plain text SMS to an MMS. This can be confusing if you are trying to find an old text or wondering why a message suddenly used mobile data instead of your text plan.

Add a Birthday to a Contact

Saved contacts on your Huawei phone often stay incomplete right after you save the first number. Without a birthday field filled in, your phone can never remind you when that date comes around. Adding it later takes a few taps in the contact details.

Restore Deleted Contacts

Accidentally deleted a contact on your Huawei phone and now it seems gone for good? EMUI actually keeps deleted contacts in a temporary folder instead of removing them right away. That window closes automatically after a set number of days, so the contact becomes unrecoverable once it expires.

Sort Contacts by First or Last Name

Searching for a colleague under their last name but finding your contact list sorted by first name instead makes lookups slower than they should be. Huawei's Contacts app defaults to first name sorting, which feels backwards if you are used to last name first address books. The sort order sits in a setting most people never open, so the list looks fixed until you know where to look.

Delete a Single SMS or Message

Deleting an entire conversation wipes out every message at once, even the ones you wanted to keep. On a Huawei phone, you can also pull just one SMS or chat message out of a thread without touching the rest. That matters when a typo, an old address, or a message sent to the wrong person is sitting in an otherwise useful conversation.

Send a Group Text Message (SMS/MMS)

When you text several people at once on a Huawei phone, EMUI can either fire off individual messages to everyone or bundle everyone into one shared conversation. If your friends keep replying only to you instead of the whole group, your device is likely stuck in mass text mode instead of true group MMS. This setting decides whether replies land in one thread or scatter into separate chats.

Enable or Disable Quick Calling

On some Huawei phones, holding the volume down key and saying a contact name starts a call even while the screen is off. If that happens by accident in your pocket, or if you want that shortcut but cannot find it, the Quick calling function is the setting responsible.

Delete a Contact

Deleting a contact on your Huawei phone removes it permanently, even if it is synced as a Google contact. Once gone, EMUI does not offer an undo option, so a wrong tap can cost you a number for good.

Merge Call History by Time or Contact

If your call log on a Huawei phone lists every single call separately, spotting all conversations with one contact takes forever. EMUI lets you merge these entries either by time or by contact, which changes how the log groups calls and where details like duration show up.

Show Frequently Contacted Numbers

If you keep scrolling through your Huawei call log to find the people you actually talk to most, the frequently contacted list is easy to miss. EMUI keeps these automatically tracked contacts inside the Favourites screen, mixed in with people you pinned manually, so the two groups look the same but come from different sources.

Make a Phone Call

If you just switched to a Huawei phone, the dialer layout can look unfamiliar compared to other Android phones you have used before. Contacts, recents and the keypad all sit inside one Phone app, and it is not always clear where to type a number and how to start the call.
