If small letters make you squint or large text pushes words off the screen, the font size on your Huawei is set wrong for your eyes. EMUI lets you scale text independently from icons and layout, but many people never find the right slider. Getting the size wrong also throws off how much content fits on a single screen.
Set Up Gesture Input
If the SwiftKey keyboard on your Huawei phone still forces you to tap every single letter, gesture input is either switched off or set to the wrong mode. Set the Calendar Start Day of Week
If your Huawei calendar always opens with Sunday as the first column instead of Monday, that setting was locked in during the initial region selection when you set up the phone. You do not need to change the region or reset the device to fix this. The Calendar app has its own setting for this that overrides the regional default.
Adjust Display Brightness
If your Huawei screen looks too dim outdoors or way too bright at night, the brightness slider is simply set for the wrong situation. Auto-brightness can fight against manual changes too, snapping the screen back to a level you did not pick. Getting this right matters because the display is one of the biggest battery drains on any phone.
Add a New Contact
Adding a contact on your Huawei phone with just a name and number skips details like birthday, address, or a relationship note. Many people also miss the option to set a custom ringtone for a single contact right when they create it. Those extra fields exist, they just sit one step further than the basic form.
Enable Complex Calculator Functions
The default calculator on most Android phones only handles basic arithmetic, so many users search the Play Store for a scientific calculator app just to get functions like sine, cosine, or logarithms. Enable or Disable Wi-Fi Calling
If your Huawei phone shows only one or two bars indoors, regular calls often drop or sound choppy even though your Wi-Fi connection is fine. Wi-Fi Calling routes voice calls through your wireless network instead of the mobile signal, which fixes exactly this kind of dead-zone problem. Before you turn it on for the first time, it helps to know that emergency calls are not supported over Wi-Fi Calling.
Rename a Paired Bluetooth Device
Bluetooth headphones or speakers often show up in your paired devices list with nothing but a cryptic model number. Once you have paired several accessories on your Huawei phone, telling them apart becomes guesswork. A custom name for each device fixes this without any extra app.
Change Voice Command Language
If your Huawei phone still listens for commands in the language you picked during setup, giving instructions in a different language often gets ignored. Voice control stores one fixed language and does not follow your device's system language automatically. That mismatch is why commands get misheard or simply do nothing.
Enable or Disable Location Tag
If your camera app is not saving where a photo or video was taken, the location tag is switched off by default on most Huawei phones. The Calendar app lets you pick a different alert sound, and you are not limited to the pre-installed tones - your own .mp3 files work too. This only affects event notifications, not calls or messages.
Enable or Disable Spam Protection
If your Huawei inbox keeps filling up with suspicious texts, spam protection in the Messages app is probably switched off or not doing its job. The feature scans incoming messages for spam patterns and reports them to Google without sharing your phone number or the message text. Some users prefer to turn it off entirely, especially if legitimate messages keep getting flagged.
Switch Between Browser Tabs
Comparing prices, articles, or search results across several open tabs in the Huawei browser gets messy once you lose track of which page is where. Closing and reopening pages wastes time, and the tab overview that solves this is easy to miss if you have never used it before.
Set a Custom Ringtone
If every call still sounds like the factory-installed tone, the personal MP3 you copied over USB or downloaded to your Huawei phone is not showing up where you expect it. The stock ringtone list only pulls from a specific storage location, so a file saved in the wrong folder simply gets ignored. Once you know which folder EMUI actually scans, picking your own track takes seconds.
Search a Website for a Keyword
Long articles and text-heavy pages make it hard to spot the one line you actually need. The Browser app on your Huawei phone can scan the whole page for a search term and jump straight to every match as you type.
Set Time Manually
If your Huawei phone keeps snapping back to network time, the 'Set automatically' toggle under Date & time is overwriting every manual change you make. That happens because EMUI pulls the clock from the mobile network or a Wi-Fi time server in the background. To keep a custom time, that sync has to be turned off first.
Enable or Disable NFC
Contactless payment at the checkout suddenly fails on your Huawei phone, or a fitness tracker refuses to pair via tap. In most cases the NFC radio is simply switched off in the connectivity settings, sometimes without you noticing. Leaving NFC active permanently can also drain battery faster if you never use tap-to-pay.
Clear Cookies in the Browser App
If the Huawei Browser keeps you logged into sites you already signed out of, or a website shows an old version no matter how often you refresh, stored cookies are usually the cause. The Browser app on EMUI lets you clear just the cookies without wiping your saved passwords or bookmarks.
Move the Default Home Screen Position
On a Huawei phone, the first home screen page is fixed as the default one, even after you add several more screens. If you want a different page, like the third one, to open first when you press the home button or add new app icons, you have to reposition that page manually instead of just rearranging widgets on it. Raise to Ear Settings
If your Huawei phone doesn't pick up calls when you lift it to your ear, or switches to speaker mode at the wrong moment, the Raise to ear motion controls are probably set up wrong. This gesture also decides whether a call starts automatically from an open contact card and whether the smart speaker or a connected Bluetooth headset takes over the audio. Wrong settings here usually mean missed calls or audio jumping to the wrong output.
Use Simple Characters for SMS
If your text messages split into several SMS parts even though they look short, special characters like curly quotes, accented letters, or emoji are likely forcing Unicode encoding, which cuts the character limit per message. Huawei's Use simple characters option rewrites those characters into plain ASCII equivalents before sending, so a single SMS covers more text. Without an SMS flat rate, this setting can noticeably lower your messaging costs.
