Huawei: Add a New Fingerprint for Unlocking

Only one fingerprint saved on your Huawei phone means unlocking fails whenever you use your other hand or someone else needs quick access. EMUI actually supports several stored fingerprints, but the option to register another one sits deep inside the Biometrics and password settings and is easy to overlook. Renaming an existing entry is optional and can be done later.

Add a New Fingerprint auf Huawei

Huawei phones can store more than one fingerprint at the same time. That lets you unlock the device with either thumb, or register a finger for someone else who regularly uses the phone.

The fingerprint sensor itself does not decide which fingers are recognized. That happens inside the Biometrics and password menu, where every registered fingerprint appears as a separate entry that can later be renamed or deleted.

To add another fingerprint, open SettingsBiometrics & passwordFingerprint IDFingerprint managementNew fingerprint. Then press the sensor and lift your finger repeatedly, following the on-screen prompts until the scan completes.

If the sensor keeps rejecting the finger, clean both the sensor and your finger first, then try a slightly different angle on the next attempt. A cracked or thick screen protector over the sensor area can also cause repeated failures and usually needs to be replaced before scanning works reliably.

Frequently asked questions

Most Huawei models allow up to five fingerprints at once, so you can register both thumbs and a couple of backup fingers without running out of slots.
