Huawei: Set a Daily App Usage Timer

Losing track of time in social media or games is easy when a Huawei phone gives no warning before you have spent an hour scrolling. EMUI includes a Digital Balance feature that limits how long individual apps stay usable each day. Without setting it up, the phone just keeps counting usage in the background without ever stepping in.

Set a Daily App Time Limit auf Huawei

Huawei phones do not restrict app usage by default. Every app stays fully accessible no matter how long it has already been open that day, which makes it easy to lose track of screen time in messaging, gaming, or video apps.

The Digital Balance feature in EMUI solves this by letting you assign a daily time budget to individual apps. Once the budget runs out, the app locks itself until the next reset.

To set it up, go to Open the SettingsTap on Digital balanceTap on App limitsChoose an appSet an app limitTap on OK.

The countdown starts fresh at midnight and tracks usage from zero again, so a limit reached today does not carry over. If you close and reopen the app repeatedly, the timer still adds up the total time spent, not just single sessions.

This function is useful for managing distracting apps, but it is not a full parental control system. If you need separate limits for a child's device, check whether a dedicated kids space or supervision profile fits better than a single app limit.

Frequently asked questions

No. The countdown is tied to the clock, not to a reboot. It only resets automatically at midnight regardless of how many times the phone restarts.
