Huawei: Archive Conversations in Messages

When your inbox fills up with old chats you still need but do not want to see every day, it gets hard to find new messages fast. Deleting them is not an option if you need to keep the content, so a way to hide them without losing them helps. Huawei Messages has a built-in archive for exactly this case.

Archive Conversations in Messages auf Huawei

A crowded inbox makes it harder to spot new messages among old conversations you still want to keep. Archiving moves a conversation out of the main list without deleting any content, so nothing gets lost.

Where the archive function sits

The archive option lives directly in the Messages app on Huawei phones running EMUI. It works with a swipe gesture instead of a hidden settings menu, which is why many people miss it at first.

Archiving a conversation

Open Messages, then find the chat you want to hide from the main list. Swipe the conversation that is to be archived to the left and confirm the archive action that appears.

The conversation disappears from your regular inbox but stays fully readable inside the archive folder. All previous messages remain intact.

What happens with new messages

If someone sends a new message in a conversation you archived, the chat is not silenced. You still get a notification, and the conversation moves back into your main inbox automatically so you do not miss anything important.

When archiving is not enough

If you want to remove a conversation permanently instead of just hiding it, deleting the chat is the better option. Archiving only helps when you need to keep the messages but want a cleaner inbox view.

Frequently asked questions

They move into a separate archive folder inside Messages instead of staying in the main conversation list. You can open that folder any time to read or reply to older chats.
