Huawei: Enable or Disable Auto Capitalize in SwiftKey Keyboard

If sentences on your Huawei phone start with a lowercase letter, or every word gets capitalized when you type, the Auto capitalize option in the SwiftKey keyboard is likely set the wrong way. This setting controls whether the first letter after a period or at the start of a message is capitalized for you automatically.

Enable or Disable Auto Capitalize auf Huawei

On Huawei devices running EMUI, the SwiftKey keyboard handles text capitalization through a dedicated typing setting. When Auto capitalize is turned on, the keyboard automatically capitalizes the first letter of a sentence and the first word after a punctuation mark such as a period or question mark.

If the option is off, every word stays lowercase unless you capitalize it manually, which is useful for people who type in lowercase styles or use custom text formats. If it is on but seems to trigger at the wrong moments, it usually means the keyboard misread a punctuation mark or line break as the end of a sentence.

To change the behavior, open Open the settingsTap on System & updatesTap on Language & inputTap on SwiftKey KeyboardTap on TypingTap on Typing & autocorrectActivate or deactivate Auto capitalize.

This setting only affects the SwiftKey keyboard app. If you switch to a different keyboard app later, you need to check its own typing settings separately, since capitalization preferences do not carry over between keyboard apps.

Frequently asked questions

This usually happens when a line break or double space is read as the end of a sentence. Check Typing & autocorrect under SwiftKey Keyboard and turn off Auto capitalize if it keeps triggering unexpectedly.
