Huawei: Enable or Disable Auto-Download Updates over WiFi

If your Huawei phone keeps grabbing software updates the moment it connects to WiFi, storage fills up before you even decide to install anything. On the other hand, if updates never seem to download on their own, this WiFi-only auto-download setting is usually the reason. Either way, the update only gets fetched, not installed, until you confirm it.

Enable or Disable Auto-Download Updates over WiFi auf Huawei

Auto-download over WiFi controls whether your Huawei phone fetches available software updates in the background as soon as it connects to a wireless network. It only downloads the update package. Installation still requires your confirmation afterward.

This behavior lives in the update settings, separate from the actual install prompt. When enabled, the phone checks for new firmware and pulls it down silently over WiFi, so it is ready to install without waiting on a large download later. When disabled, updates are only downloaded after you manually trigger a check or start the install process yourself.

To change this setting, go to Open the SettingsTap on System & updatesTap on Software updateOpen the SettingsEnable or disable Auto-download over Wi-Fi.

Turning this on makes sense if you are on an unlimited or fast home network and want updates ready to install right away. Turning it off is better on a shared or metered WiFi connection, or if you prefer to review update notes before any data is used. Note that this toggle only affects WiFi; it does not control downloads over mobile data.
