Huawei: Set App Icon Badges to Numbers or Dots

App icon badges give you a quick preview of new activity without opening an app. Huawei phones running EMUI let you choose how that preview looks: a plain red dot, or a red circle with the actual number of unread notifications.

If your badges suddenly changed style, or you want more detail than a simple dot, the setting sits in the notification menu, not in the home screen settings.

Go to Open the settings ➔ Tap on Notifications ➔ Tap on App icon badges ➔ Tap on Badge display mode ➔ Choose between Numbers or Dots.

Numbers are useful when you track how many unread messages or emails are waiting. Dots are less distracting if you only need a visual reminder that something happened, without an exact count.

This setting is a global switch. It applies to every app that supports badges, so you cannot mix numbers for one app and dots for another from this screen.

If badges do not appear at all, check that the master toggle above Badge display mode is turned on, and confirm the individual app is allowed to show notifications.
