Huawei: Switch Your Hotspot Between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz

Your Huawei phone hands out its mobile hotspot on 2.4 GHz by default, and that works with almost any WLAN device but slows things down once several gadgets share the same channel. Laptops, tablets or streaming sticks that support 5 GHz stay stuck on the slower band until you switch it manually. This shows up as sluggish transfers or buffering whenever more than one device connects to your hotspot at the same time.

Change the AP Band for Mobile Hotspot auf Huawei

Huawei sets new hotspots to 2.4 GHz because that band is supported by every WLAN chip ever made, including cheap smart-home gadgets and older laptops. The trade-off is speed: 2.4 GHz has fewer non-overlapping channels and gets crowded fast in apartments or offices, which drags down your hotspot throughput.

If the devices connecting to your hotspot are newer, switching to 5 GHz gives you higher real-world speeds and less interference, though the range shrinks slightly compared to 2.4 GHz. The setting sits behind an advanced toggle in EMUI, so it is not visible until you enable it.

To change it, go to Open the SettingsTap on Mobile networkTap on Tethering & portable hotspotTap on Personal hotspotTap on Configure hotspotEnable Show advanced optionsTap on AP bandChoose 2,4 GHzor5GHzConfirm with OK.

Keep in mind that switching to 5 GHz can drop connections from older phones, smart-home devices or accessories that only support 2.4 GHz. If you regularly connect a mix of old and new hardware, staying on 2.4 GHz avoids reconnect issues, even though it caps your maximum speed.

The option is hidden until you enable Show advanced options inside Tap on Configure hotspot. Without that toggle switched on, EMUI only shows basic hotspot settings like name and password.
