Clearing app data resets a single app to the state it had right after installation. Android and EMUI store each app's settings, login sessions, cached files, and saved content such as photos, videos, or game scores in a dedicated storage folder. When that folder is deleted, the app forgets everything except the app itself.
This function is useful when an app freezes, crashes repeatedly, shows a corrupted interface, or gets stuck on an old account. It is also the fastest way to force a stubborn app to redo its first-time setup without a full uninstall and reinstall.
To clear data for an app, open Open the Settings ➔ Tap on Apps ➔ Tap on Apps ➔ Choose an app ➔ Tap on Storage ➔ Tap on Clear data ➔ Confirm with OK.
If the goal is only to free up space without losing settings or login data, clearing the cache instead of the data is the better option, since cache files rebuild automatically. Clearing app data goes further and removes everything the app has saved locally.
Without an explicit backup through the app itself or a cloud sync, none of the deleted data, scores, or files can be recovered afterward. Always check whether the app offers its own backup or sync option before confirming.
