Huawei: Set a Monthly Data Limit for Mobile Data

If mobile data keeps running out before the month ends, your Huawei phone probably has no monthly limit configured yet. Without a limit or warning threshold, EMUI lets data usage climb unnoticed until you hit your carrier cap. A fixed start date also matters, since usage tracking otherwise resets on the wrong day compared to your billing cycle.

Set a Monthly Data Limit auf Huawei

Mobile data usage on Huawei phones is tracked from a fixed start date, not automatically from your billing cycle. If that date does not match your carrier's cycle, the usage counter and any limit you set will be off from the start.

To fix this, open Open the settingsTap on Mobile networkTap on Data usageTap on More data settingsTap on Monthly data limit. Type in the amount you want to allow and confirm with Type in a data limit and confirm with OK.

Right below the limit setting, tap Tap on Start date and set the day your carrier resets your data plan, then confirm with Set a start date and confirm with OK. From that point, EMUI counts usage against your limit starting on the correct day each month.

Once the limit is active, the system can also show a warning before you reach it, giving you time to reduce usage or switch to Wi-Fi. This setting only affects mobile data tracking; it does not throttle or block Wi-Fi traffic.

If your phone still shows usage that does not match your carrier's app, double-check that the start date matches your actual billing date, since a mismatch is the most common cause of inaccurate readings.

Frequently asked questions

Reaching the value entered under Monthly data limit triggers a warning, but mobile data is not disabled automatically unless you also enable a separate auto-disable option if your device offers one. Check the same Data usage screen for that switch.
