Set Default Volume Button Control auf Huawei
By default, Huawei phones link the hardware volume buttons to media playback, not to calls or notifications. That behavior is stored under Open the settings ➔ Tap on Sounds & vibration ➔ Tap on Default volume button control, where EMUI keeps the button assignment for the physical volume keys.
Selecting Choose Media or Ringtone and picking Ringtone makes the same buttons control call and notification volume instead of music or video sound. This matters most if you keep missing calls because pressing the volume keys only raised the media level while the ringer stayed silent.
If your goal is to mute notifications only during certain hours rather than change which sound type the buttons control, a Focus mode or Do Not Disturb schedule fixes that instead.
The setting applies system-wide. It affects both the physical buttons and the on-screen volume slider that pops up when you press them, on the lock screen and inside apps alike.
