Huawei: Delete a Saved APN (Access Point Name)

If a Huawei phone suddenly loses mobile data or MMS stops working after a SIM swap or carrier update, a leftover or wrong Access Point Name (APN) entry is often behind it. Manually typed APN details or an outdated carrier profile can block a clean connection to the mobile network. Removing the faulty entry is usually what lets the phone reconnect or accept a fresh APN.

Delete a Saved APN on Huawei auf Huawei

An Access Point Name tells your Huawei phone how to reach your carrier's mobile data network. EMUI stores these entries under the mobile network settings, and a single wrong character in the APN, username, or proxy field is enough to break data, MMS, or both.

This usually happens after switching SIM cards, changing carriers, or entering a manual APN from an outdated guide. The old or broken entry stays selected even though it no longer matches your current provider, so the phone keeps trying to connect through the wrong profile.

Deleting the faulty APN removes that conflict. Once it's gone, EMUI can either fall back to the carrier's default profile or let you add a corrected one from scratch.

To remove it: Open the SettingsTap on Mobile networkTap on Mobile dataTap on Access Point Names (APNs)Open the menuTap on Delete APN.

If mobile data still fails afterward, the issue may sit elsewhere, for example a disabled data toggle, airplane mode, or a SIM that needs reinserting. In that case, deleting the APN alone won't help and you should check those settings first before adding a new access point.

Frequently asked questions

Mobile data usually drops briefly while the phone selects a remaining APN or the carrier default. If no other entry exists, you may need to add one manually or restart the phone to trigger auto-detection.
