Huawei: Turn Google Location History On or Off

Google Location History runs as a background function tied to your Google account, separate from GPS or app permissions. Even if you never open Maps or Search, your Huawei phone can still record timestamped location points and send them to your account for personalized recommendations and timeline features.

This setting lives inside the phone's Location menu, not inside the Google app itself, which is why many people overlook it. Because tracking continues silently, it can drain battery slightly and build a long-term movement history without an obvious notification.

To check or change the status, open Open the Settings ➔ Tap on Location ➔ Tap on Google Location History ➔ Enable or disable Location History ➔ Confirm with Pause.

Choosing Pause stops new location points from being saved, but existing history stays in your Google account until you delete it separately. If you only want to stop specific apps from accessing your position, adjusting individual app permissions is a better fix than disabling Location History entirely, since that setting affects your whole Google account across devices, not just this phone.
