Huawei: Set Up the Volume Key Shortcut for Accessibility Features

If holding both volume buttons for three seconds does nothing on your Huawei phone, the accessibility shortcut is probably switched off or has no feature assigned to it. This shortcut is meant to give instant access to tools like TalkBack or colour correction without opening any menu. Whether it also fires on the lock screen depends on a separate switch that many users overlook.

Volume Key Shortcut for Accessibility Features auf Huawei

The volume key shortcut sits inside the accessibility menu of EMUI. Once active, holding both volume buttons for three seconds triggers a feature you have picked in advance, without opening any app first.

To check or change it, open SettingsAccessibility featuresAccessibilityAccessibility shortcut. Toggle Accessibility shortcut on or off and confirm with OK. This master switch decides whether the button combo does anything at all.

Below it you find Allow when screen is locked. Leave this off and the shortcut only works once the phone is unlocked. Turn it on and the same button hold also works from the lock screen, which is useful if you rely on TalkBack before entering a PIN.

Tap Select feature to pick which tool actually opens, for example TalkBack, colour correction, or magnification. If no feature is selected, the shortcut stays silent even when the switch is on.

If holding the volume buttons only changes the ringer or media volume, the shortcut itself is disabled or not assigned, not broken hardware.

Frequently asked questions

Under Select feature you get a list of the accessibility tools installed on your phone, such as TalkBack, colour correction, or magnification. Pick one and it opens every time you hold both volume buttons for three seconds.
