Huawei: Create a Backup with Storage & Backup

If your Huawei phone crashes or you switch devices, unsaved photos, contacts and app data disappear for good. The built-in backup tool lets you store a full copy on external storage or your computer via HiSuite, but many people never find the setting or pick the wrong storage target. Knowing where the backup file ends up matters just as much as creating it.

Create a Huawei Backup auf Huawei

A Huawei backup captures photos, contacts, messages, app data and system settings in a single file. Without it, a factory reset, a broken screen or a lost phone means starting from zero on a new device.

The Data backup function inside Backup & restore handles this locally, no cloud account required. You choose where the file goes: a microSD card, a USB drive connected through an OTG adapter, or your computer through HiSuite.

To start a backup, open SettingsSystem & updatesBackup & restoreData backup ➔ choose External storage or HiSuite and follow the steps shown on screen.

External storage works best when you plan to restore the backup on the same device or a phone that accepts the same card. HiSuite makes more sense if you want a copy stored on your computer, for example before flashing a new update or moving to a different Huawei model.

Keep in mind that a backup only protects data captured at that exact moment. Repeat it after major changes, such as adding new photos or installing apps you would not want to lose.
