Can each language use a different keyboard layout at the same time?

Yes. Every language listed under Languages keeps its own layout setting, so English can stay on QWERTY while German is set to QWERTZ or French to AZERTY. Switching between input languages on the keyboard also switches to the layout stored for that language.

Why do accented letters land on the wrong key after switching layout?

This usually means the layout does not match the physical habit you are used to, for example QWERTZ instead of the extended QWERTZ variant. Reopen SwiftKey Keyboard ➔ Languages, select the language again, and swipe to check whether an extended version of the layout is available.

Does changing the layout affect other keyboard apps installed on the phone?

No. The layout setting under Language & input only applies to the SwiftKey keyboard. If you use a different keyboard app, its layout has to be changed inside that app's own settings.

What if my language only shows one layout option?

Some languages ship with a single default layout on EMUI, so swiping left or right will not reveal alternatives. In that case, the only way to get a different arrangement, such as Dvorak or Colemak, is switching the keyboard language to one that supports it, if that fits your typing needs.

SwiftKey stores a separate layout setting for every keyboard language on your Huawei phone. Adding a new input language does not change its layout automatically, so you can end up typing on QWERTY while your system language expects QWERTZ or AZERTY. Punctuation, umlauts, and accented letters are the first thing to look wrong, since their position differs between layouts.

To fix it, open Settings ➔ System & updates ➔ Language & input ➔ SwiftKey Keyboard ➔ Languages. Tap the keyboard language you want to adjust, then swipe left or right through the available layouts for that language. Tap the layout you actually need, for example QWERTZ or AZERTY, to apply it.

This setting only affects the selected language. If you type in more than one language, repeat the same steps for each one, since English input can stay on QWERTY while German or French use a different layout.

If the keyboard still behaves oddly after switching, check whether autocorrect or a custom dictionary is interfering rather than the layout itself.
