Huawei: Turn Keypad Tones On or Off

Every tap on the on-screen keyboard triggers a click or tone on some Huawei phones, and that sound can get annoying fast in quiet rooms or during calls. The feedback comes from a separate keypad tones setting that is independent from your general ringtone or notification sound. If typing suddenly sounds different after a system update, this setting is usually the reason.

Enable or Disable Keypad Tones auf Huawei

Keypad tones are the short clicks or melodies your Huawei phone plays every time you tap a key on the on-screen keyboard. This feedback sound is controlled separately from your ringtone, notification sound, and touch vibration, so muting your phone does not automatically silence it.

The setting sits inside the general sound menu, not inside the keyboard app itself. That is why some users search the wrong place when trying to turn it off.

To change it, open SettingsSounds & vibrationMore sound settingsKeypad tones. There you can pick None to disable the sound completely, Default for the standard click, or Melody for a softer tone sequence.

If you still hear a sound after selecting None, check whether your third-party keyboard app has its own separate sound setting active in its own app settings. In that case, the system-level keypad tones option has no effect, since the keyboard app overrides it.

Turning keypad tones off does not disable haptic feedback (vibration on tap), which is a separate setting under the same sound menu.
