Huawei: Set a Lock Screen Password

If your Huawei phone has no screen lock, anyone who picks it up can browse apps, messages and photos without any restriction. A weak or missing lock also means accidental taps in your pocket can open apps or dial numbers. Huawei lets you choose between a PIN, a custom pattern or a full password, depending on how much protection you need.

Set a Lock Screen Password auf Huawei

Without an active screen lock, your Huawei phone stays fully accessible to anyone who picks it up. Pocket taps can also trigger calls or open apps by accident. Setting a lock screen password closes both gaps and gives you a choice of protection levels.

Where to find the setting

Open the path Open the settingsTap on Biometrics & passwordTap on Lock screen passwordTap on Change unlock method.

From there, pick Choose 4-digit PIN, Custom PIN, Pattern or Password. A 4-digit PIN is fastest to enter but offers fewer combinations. A custom PIN or a full password with letters and symbols gives stronger protection, while a pattern trades some security for a quicker gesture-based unlock.

After selecting a method, Type in a PIN and then Confirm PIN to lock it in. The same confirmation step applies if you chose a pattern or password instead.

If you mainly want speed over strength, pair this lock with fingerprint or face unlock afterward, since EMUI still requires the PIN, pattern or password as a fallback method.

Frequently asked questions

After several failed attempts, EMUI shows a recovery option tied to your Huawei ID. If no Huawei ID is linked, a factory reset through recovery mode is usually the only way back in, which erases local data.
