Huawei: Mute or Enable the Camera Shutter Sound

Huawei phones running EMUI play a shutter sound by default whenever you take a photo. This sound is controlled separately from your general media or ringer volume, which is why lowering the volume buttons does not silence it.

The camera app stores this option inside its own settings menu, independent of the system sound settings found under Notifications or Sounds. Because of this, many users assume the shutter noise follows the phone's silent mode, when in reality it does not.

Where to change the setting

Open the path Open Camera ➔ Open the settings ➔ Activate or deactivate Mute to toggle the shutter sound on or off. Disabling it here stops the tone permanently, regardless of your ringer state.

If you want the phone completely silent, including calls and other apps, use the physical silent switch or the system sound settings instead. The camera mute option only affects the shutter sound itself, not other app sounds like video recording beeps or focus confirmation tones, if your model produces those separately.
