Huawei: Rename a Contact Group

A contact group on your Huawei phone keeps the name you gave it when you created it, even after you add or remove members. If that name no longer matches the people inside, the group stays confusing every time you open Contacts to send a message or start a call.

Rename a Contact Group auf Huawei

Contact groups on Huawei phones get their name once, right when you create them. EMUI does not update this name automatically, even if you swap out every member later. That is why a group labeled "Team A" can end up containing people who have nothing to do with that project.

Renaming a group does not affect the contacts inside it. Phone numbers, photos, and other contact details stay untouched. Only the label used in the Groups list changes.

How to rename a group

Open the Contacts app, then tap Groups. Choose the group you want to rename, then tap More. Select Rename, enter the new name, and confirm with OK.

If you cannot find the Groups tab, your Contacts app view may be filtered. Switching the display back to the default contact list usually brings the tab back.

Renaming will not help if members are missing or duplicated instead. In that case, edit the group membership directly rather than just changing its name.

Frequently asked questions

No. Renaming only changes the label shown under Groups. Phone numbers, emails, and photos linked to the contacts stay exactly the same.
