Huawei: Send an MMS with Photo or Video Attachments

Trying to send a photo or video in a text message on your Huawei phone but not sure if it goes through as an MMS? Attaching a file to a conversation in the Messages app automatically switches the message type, but the option is easy to miss if you only look for a text-only send button. This guide shows where the attachment control sits and what happens once you tap send.

Send an MMS with Photo or Video Attachments auf Huawei

On Huawei phones running EMUI, an MMS is not a separate message type you choose manually. It is created automatically the moment you attach a file to a text message inside the Messages app.

To send one, open Open the Messages app and either pick an existing thread or tap Choose a conversation or tap Start chat to begin a new one. After selecting Choose a contact, type your text and then tap Enter a text message followed by Tap on Add attachment.

From here you can Swipe left or right to browse the files stored on the device and pick the one you want with Choose a file. Once a photo, video, or other file is attached, the app switches the draft from SMS to MMS on its own, which you will usually notice by a change in the character counter or send icon.

Tap Tap on Send to deliver the message. Keep in mind that MMS delivery depends on your carrier having mobile data or MMS settings enabled, so a message can appear stuck if data is off or if you are on Wi-Fi only without MMS-over-Wi-Fi support from your carrier.

If the attachment fails to send but plain text messages work fine, the issue is almost always related to carrier MMS settings rather than the Messages app itself.

Frequently asked questions

This usually points to mobile data being turned off or a weak connection. MMS needs an active data connection even if you are on Wi-Fi, since most carriers route MMS traffic separately from regular internet data.
