Huawei: Change Default Apps for Browser, Music and More

EMUI asks you to pick an app every time a function has more than one capable app installed and no default has been chosen yet. This happens most often with links, music files, photo viewers or the phone dialer once you install a second browser, player or gallery app. Setting a default removes the picker and opens your preferred app directly from then on.

To set a default app on your Huawei phone, open Open the settings ➔ Tap on Apps ➔ Tap on Default apps. This screen lists the functions that already have a default assigned, such as browser or phone app.

For functions not shown on the main screen, tap Tap on More default. There you find additional categories like assist app or browser. Tap Choose a Function to open the list of apps installed for that task, then tap Choose a Standard App to confirm your pick.

Changing a default app does not remove or disable the other installed apps for that function. You can still open them manually from the app drawer or by long-pressing a link and choosing 'Open with'. If you later install a new app for the same function, EMUI may show the picker again until you set a new default.
