Huawei: Set the Default Browser App

If tapping a link in a message or email keeps opening Huawei Browser instead of Chrome, Firefox or Opera, the system default app was never switched. EMUI decides which browser handles outside links independently of which apps you have installed. Downloading a new browser from the Play Store alone does not change this setting.

Set Default Browser App auf Huawei

When you tap a link in a message, email or search result, Android opens whichever browser is currently set as default, not necessarily the one you prefer.

On Huawei phones running EMUI, this default is controlled by the system app settings, not by the browser itself. Installing Chrome, Firefox or Opera from the Play Store does not automatically make it your default browser.

To change it, go to Open the SettingsTap on AppsTap on Default appsTap on Browser appChoose the default browser app. Select the browser you want links to open in and confirm your choice.

This setting only affects links opened outside of an app, such as from messages, notes or notifications. Apps that use their own built-in browser view are not affected by this change.

If your preferred browser does not show up in the list, install it from the Play Store first, open it once, and dismiss any setup prompt before returning to the Default apps menu.
