Huawei: Turn Location Access On or Off

If your Huawei phone keeps showing the location icon in the status bar even though you are not navigating or checking in anywhere, general location access is probably switched on for every app at once. This master switch overrides individual app permissions, so weather, maps, and social apps all lose GPS access the moment you turn it off. It is a different setting from disabling location for a single app.

Turn Location Access On or Off auf Huawei

Location access on Huawei phones works as a master switch. When it is turned off, no app can read GPS, Wi-Fi, or mobile network positioning, no matter which permissions you granted individually beforehand.

This is useful if you want to save battery, hide your movements from all apps at once, or troubleshoot a location bug without checking every app one by one. It is not the right fix if only a single app misbehaves, since it also blocks navigation, weather, and delivery apps that rely on your position.

To change the setting, go to Open the settingsTap on LocationActivate or deactivate Access my location. Turning the toggle off greys out location for every app immediately; turning it back on restores access based on whatever permissions each app already had.

Keep in mind that some system functions, such as emergency location sharing or lost-device tracking, may stop working while this setting is off.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Since Access my location is a system-wide switch, any tracking feature that relies on GPS, including device-finder services, stops working while it is off.
