Activate or Deactivate a SIM Card
If you run Dual-SIM on your Huawei phone, you might want to switch off one number without pulling the physical card out. A deactivated SIM stops receiving calls, texts and mobile data until you turn it back on. This control sits inside the mobile network settings, not on the SIM tray or lock screen.
Manage Device Administrators
If an app refuses to uninstall or keeps triggering warnings about admin rights, it likely still holds device administrator status on your Huawei phone. Device administrator permissions let an app change system settings, lock the screen or wipe stored data - access many apps request without a clear explanation. Turning off the wrong administrator can break features like Find My Phone or a company profile, so you need to know exactly which app is authorized before switching anything off.
Share Wi-Fi Password via QR Code
Typing out a long Wi-Fi password for guests or family members wastes time and often ends in typos. Huawei phones can turn the active connection into a scannable code instead of a string of characters. This works only for networks your device is already connected to.
Turn Vibrate on Touch On or Off
Every tap on the back button, a menu item, or a toggle triggers a short buzz on your Huawei phone, even when you just want a quiet browsing session. Or the opposite happens: you rely on that haptic click to confirm a tap and suddenly it stops firing. Either way, the setting sits inside the sound options, not the vibration settings you would expect.
Enable or Disable Speak Passwords
When TalkBack reads out loud every character you type into a password field, anyone nearby can hear your login details. This happens because the Speak passwords option inside TalkBack is switched on by default on some Huawei phones. Turning it off keeps password entries silent while TalkBack still announces everything else.
USB Tethering: Enable or Disable
If your laptop shows no internet connection after you plug in your Huawei phone via USB, USB tethering is probably still switched off. Windows or macOS only picks up the shared connection once the toggle is active on the phone. Without it, the cable link stays a simple charging connection.
Turn Personal Hotspot On or Off
When other devices show no internet connection through your Huawei phone, the personal hotspot is often switched off or was never configured. You can also give it a custom name and password so people around you connect quickly without sharing your regular Wi-Fi.
Set Alarm Volume Separately
If your alarm sounds too quiet or too loud even after adjusting the ringtone, the problem is not the ringtone at all. On Huawei phones the alarm has its own volume level, separate from calls and media playback. Missing this setting is a common reason people oversleep or get startled awake.
Block Unknown Numbers
Anonymous or withheld numbers keep ringing your Huawei phone even though you never answer them. This happens because call blocking for private numbers is turned off by default in the Phone app, so every masked caller gets through until you change that setting.
Reset Advertising ID
If ads on your Huawei phone feel oddly specific, the Advertising ID stored on your device is the reason. Apps and ad networks use this identifier to link your browsing and app behavior over time, even across different services. Resetting it breaks that chain and hands you a new, unlinked ID.
Manage App Launch on Huawei
If notifications arrive late or messaging apps get killed in the background on your Huawei phone, the automatic App launch management is usually the cause. EMUI decides on its own which apps may run in the background, start automatically, or trigger other apps, and that can be too strict for apps you rely on.
Enable or Disable Dual Clocks
Travel to a different time zone with your Huawei phone and the lock screen suddenly shows two clocks side by side. That second clock reflects your home city time and keeps appearing until you switch the dual clocks feature off or update the home time zone yourself.
Enable or Disable Cell Broadcasts
Getting a flood of monthly test alerts on your Huawei phone, or missing a real emergency warning entirely? Both come down to the cell broadcast settings, which control AMBER alerts, extreme and severe threat notifications separately from your regular messages. Each alert type can be switched on or off on its own.
Show SIM Card Messages
Old text messages you sent or received years ago sometimes disappear from your inbox after a SIM swap or a factory reset, even though they still physically sit on the SIM card. Huawei phones do not display these by default because the Messages app only loads device storage first. They are not deleted, just hidden from the normal conversation view.
Enable or Disable Huawei Share
If you cannot send photos or files directly to another Huawei phone nearby, Huawei Share is likely switched off. The feature ships deactivated by default, so nearby devices will not detect each other until you turn it on. Once active, you can also enable Computer Share to move files between your phone and a PC or laptop on the same network.
Scheduled Power On/Off Setup
If your Huawei phone keeps missing its automatic shutdown or startup, the Scheduled power on/off feature in Accessibility features is either switched off or running on the wrong repeat interval. This setting controls exact power times independently from Do Not Disturb or any battery schedule. Picking the wrong repeat option, for example Custom instead of Every day, makes the phone skip days you actually wanted covered.
Enable or Disable Automatic Data Backup
If your Huawei phone skips its weekly backup, the charger and battery level requirements are usually the reason. Auto-backup only runs while the device is plugged in and charged to at least 75 percent, so a missed connection means a missed backup. Checking the current setting is the fastest way to find out why your last backup never happened.
Add a New User Account
Sharing your Huawei phone with family or a colleague usually means everyone sees your apps, photos, and messages. Adding a separate user account keeps each person's home screen, apps, and background apart from yours. Some settings, like WiFi, still stay shared across every user on the device.
Enable or Disable Google Autofill
If login fields, addresses or payment details fill in on their own, the Google Autofill service is active on your Huawei phone and pulling data straight from your Google account. Some users want that convenience back, others want it switched off after noticing sensitive data appearing in forms it should not touch. Either way, the setting sits in a place that is easy to miss.
Set Phone Ringtone
If your Huawei phone still rings with the default tone after you picked a new one, the change probably landed on the wrong SIM slot. Dual SIM devices store separate ringtones for SIM1 and SIM2, so the tone you hear depends on which line is receiving the call. Video calling apps can also override the system ringtone with their own sound.
Set Preferred Network Type (2G/3G/LTE)
When LTE reception is weak, your Huawei phone can lose its data connection entirely instead of falling back to a stable signal. The preferred network type setting decides which mobile network your SIM tries to connect to, and picking the wrong option often causes dropped calls or painfully slow browsing.
Fingerprint Sensor as Camera Shutter
Taking selfies or group shots on a Huawei phone often means stretching a thumb across the screen for the shutter button while the frame shifts. The fingerprint sensor can act as that trigger instead, but the switch for it lives inside a security menu, not the camera app, so most people never find it.
Change Keyboard Layout
If your Huawei phone types in QWERTY when you expect QWERTZ, or French input still lands on AZERTY-standard keys, the SwiftKey keyboard is using the wrong layout for that language. Each keyboard language on EMUI can carry its own layout, and switching the input language does not automatically switch the layout with it. This mismatch shows up most when typing accented characters or symbols that sit in different spots across QWERTZ, AZERTY, QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak, and QZERTY.
Show Alternate Calendars in the Calendar App
If your Calendar app only shows Gregorian dates, religious or cultural holidays like Islamic, Hebrew, or Chinese Lunar dates stay invisible next to your regular entries. EMUI hides this option inside the Calendar settings by default, so most users never notice it exists. Adding an alternate calendar shows a second date line under each day without replacing your main calendar.
