Change TalkBack Navigation Settings
Once TalkBack is running on your OnePlus phone, every tap and swipe controls the screen differently, and the default behavior does not always fit how you want to use the device. Single-tap activation and the context menu list decide how fast items get selected and how the options menu is displayed. Left on the wrong setting, the phone can feel unresponsive or the menu becomes hard to read.
Add a Contact Photo
If a contact shows up as a plain gray silhouette instead of a picture, incoming calls and texts on your OnePlus phone give you no visual clue about who is reaching out. That gets confusing fast when several contacts share a similar first name or when you are scrolling through a long list looking for someone.
Allow Phone Calls and SMS for Added Users
When you add a second user profile on a OnePlus phone, that account cannot make calls or send texts by default. The Phone and Messages apps stay locked until you switch on a specific permission for that profile. Once active, call logs and SMS threads become shared across every user on the device.
Switch Between 12- and 24-Hour Clock Format
When your OnePlus clock suddenly shows military time after setting up a new region, or you want the classic AM/PM display back on your lock screen, the format did not change by itself. OxygenOS ties the hour style to your selected region, so you need to switch it manually to get the display you are used to. Without this fix, every screen showing the time keeps the format tied to whatever region you picked during setup.
Select Network Automatically
If your OnePlus phone still shows a foreign carrier after a trip abroad, or displays no service while coverage should be fine, manual network selection is likely still switched on. This often happens after the phone registered with a local network abroad and never switched back to automatic mode.
Turn Bluetooth On or Off
If your OnePlus phone refuses to connect to earbuds, headphones or a speaker, Bluetooth is often simply switched off. Leaving the radio active when you are not using it also drains the battery faster than necessary and can trigger unwanted pairing prompts from nearby devices.
Reject an Incoming Call by Dragging the Handset Icon
If you just want a call to stop ringing without triggering the usual quick-reply text message, tapping and holding the handset icon is not the same as swiping to decline. On OnePlus phones, dragging the green icon downward ends the call silently, and what happens next depends entirely on your carrier's voicemail or call diversion setup, not on the phone itself. Many users mix this gesture up with the short-answer method and end up confused when no SMS is sent.
Connect via Wi-Fi Direct
Trying to send a photo or mirror your screen from your OnePlus to a Smart TV or Fire TV Stick only works if both devices can actually see each other over Wi-Fi Direct. If the target device never shows up in the list, Wi-Fi Direct is often still switched off on one side or the receiver is not in pairing mode. A stalled invitation usually points to the same cause.
Restrict Apps to Wi-Fi Only or Mobile Data
If Netflix, YouTube or another streaming app keeps eating through your mobile data plan even when you are near a router, it is likely still allowed to use mobile data in the background. OxygenOS lets you lock individual apps to Wi-Fi only, or the reverse, so they never touch your cellular connection again. This is separate from the general data saver toggle and works per app.
Set Up an APN Manually
If mobile data or MMS stops working right after you swap SIM cards, your OnePlus likely never received the correct Access Point Name. OxygenOS normally pulls these settings automatically from your carrier, but that handoff often fails with prepaid SIMs, MVNOs, or after a factory reset. The network bars still show a connection while data transfer silently fails in the background.
Show WiFi Password as QR Code
Typing out a long WiFi password for guests or family members gets old fast, especially with mixed-case letters and symbols. OnePlus phones can turn the saved network credentials into a scannable QR code instead. Anyone with a phone or tablet camera can then join the network without ever seeing or typing the actual password.
Delete Cookies in the Browser App
If a website keeps asking you to log in again or shows outdated settings even after you cleared your history, leftover cookies in your OnePlus browser app are usually the cause. Cookies pile up over weeks of browsing and can also slow down page loading on sites you visit often.
Add Trusted Devices to Smart Lock
If your OnePlus phone keeps locking itself even though a paired gadget is right next to it, Smart Lock's trusted device list might not include that accessory yet. Trusted devices work independently from trusted locations and rely on an active Bluetooth connection to keep the screen unlocked. Without pairing the accessory first, the option in Smart Lock stays unavailable.
Turn Off Wi-Fi Direct
Wi-Fi Direct on your OnePlus phone keeps running in the background even after a file transfer or screen mirroring session is finished. As long as one paired device stays linked, the feature does not switch off by itself and can quietly drain battery or block a new pairing attempt.
Disable Gmail Event Sync in Calendar
Booking a flight or a restaurant table on your OnePlus phone can suddenly add an extra appointment to your Calendar app that you never created manually. This happens because Gmail automatically forwards detected reservations and bookings as calendar events for every linked Google account. If you only want your own manually added appointments to show up, that automatic sync needs to be turned off.
Enable or Disable Google Backup
If your OnePlus phone stops uploading app data, contacts, and call history to Google Drive, you probably never checked whether Back up to Google Drive is actually turned on. This backup runs in the background and only keeps working while the toggle stays active, so a forgotten setting can mean silent data loss during a reset or device swap. Some people also switch it off on purpose to save mobile data or Drive storage without realizing what that costs them later.
Delete a Conversation in Messages
If you want to clear out an entire SMS or MMS thread from the Messages app without tapping through every single message, OnePlus lets you remove the whole conversation in one action. Once you confirm the deletion, everything inside that thread, including attached photos or videos, is gone and cannot be brought back. This applies the same way on any OnePlus phone running Android with OxygenOS.
Set Vibration Pattern and Intensity for Calls
Every incoming call on your OnePlus phone can feel identical to a random notification buzz, especially when the phone sits in a pocket or bag. OxygenOS lets you pick a distinct vibration pattern and set how strong it feels for calls specifically, but the option is buried several menus deep inside the sound settings. Without adjusting it, you keep guessing whether your phone is ringing or just pinging.
Enable or Disable VoLTE Calls
Calls on your OnePlus sound muffled or take a few extra seconds to connect, especially indoors or in areas with weak signal. This happens because the phone falls back to older 2G or 3G networks instead of routing voice traffic over your 4G connection. Switching this behavior on or off changes call quality, connection speed, and even battery drain.
Key Long Press Delay Setting
Typing on the OnePlus virtual keyboard sometimes brings up a number or symbol before you meant to hold a key down, or makes you wait too long for that long-press to register. This is controlled by the Gboard key long press delay, a slider between 100 ms and 700 ms. Getting this value wrong for your typing speed causes either accidental long presses or a sluggish feel when reaching for secondary characters.
Enable or Disable Mobile Data Warning
If your OnePlus burns through mobile data before the billing cycle resets, you usually only notice once your carrier already throttled your speed or sent an overage charge. A data warning flags a threshold you choose yourself, so you get a heads-up while there is still data left to manage. Without it, Data usage tracking runs silently in the background and gives you no advance signal.
Enable or Disable Share Location in the Browser App
If Chrome keeps popping up a location prompt every time you search for something nearby, or local search results suddenly disappear, the Share location setting in the browser app is behind it. This toggle controls whether any website can even ask for your GPS position, separate from the app-level location permissions you manage elsewhere on your OnePlus phone. Turning it off silences every future request, but it also breaks maps, delivery tracking, and store-locator pages that rely on your position.
Enable Read Text on Images (Select to Speak)
If Select to Speak stays silent when you point your camera at a sign or open a photo full of text, the Read text on images option is likely switched off. This experimental function reads printed text aloud from pictures and the live camera viewfinder, but only when it is turned on separately inside the accessibility settings. On many OxygenOS builds the toggle sits in a sub-menu and gets overlooked during setup.
Delete an Alarm
If your OnePlus still lists alarms from a finished shift, an old routine, or a trip that is long over, the Clock app gets cluttered fast. That makes it harder to spot the alarm you actually need for tomorrow and raises the chance of tapping the wrong one by accident. Removing the outdated entries is the only way to get a clean, reliable list again.
