Update a saved Wi-Fi password without reconnecting auf OnePlus
When a router password changes, a OnePlus phone still tries to authenticate with the old credentials stored for that network. The connection fails silently or the phone shows a generic error instead of prompting for a new password.
Many users then delete the network and set it up from scratch. That removes more than just the password: proxy configuration, static IP settings, and metered connection flags attached to that Wi-Fi profile disappear too. Editing the existing entry avoids all of that.
How to edit the saved password
On OxygenOS, saved Wi-Fi networks can be edited directly from the network list. Go to Open the Settings ➔ Tap on Wi-Fi & network ➔ Tap on Wi-Fi ➔ Tap on Saved networks ➔ Choose a Wi-Fi network ➔ Tap on Edit ➔ Enter the new password and tap Save.
The phone reconnects automatically once the new password matches the router. If the network still fails after saving, double check the password for typos or confirm the router actually applied the change and rebooted if required.
Use forget-and-reconnect only if the network name (SSID) itself changed, since editing a saved entry only updates the password, not the network identity.
