OnePlus: Enable One-Handed Keyboard Mode

When you hold your OnePlus with just one hand, the Gboard keyboard often stays too wide for your thumb to reach the far edge. Typing single-handed then means stretching your thumb or shifting your grip with every message. One-handed mode shrinks the keyboard and pins it to whichever side fits your hand.

Enable One-Handed Keyboard Mode auf OnePlus

Reaching the top corners of the Gboard keyboard with one thumb gets uncomfortable on larger OnePlus phones. The keyboard defaults to full width, so single-handed typing forces you to stretch or constantly reposition your grip.

Gboard includes a dedicated one-handed mode that shrinks the keyboard and moves it to either side of the screen. This cuts the distance your thumb has to travel without changing anything else in the interface.

Open SettingsSystemLanguages & inputVirtual keyboardGboardPreferencesOne-handed mode. From there choose Right-handed mode if you type with your right thumb, or Left-handed mode if you use your left hand.

The keyboard shifts and shrinks toward the side you picked right away. A small arrow icon next to the resized keyboard lets you flip sides or return to full width without opening settings again.

If your issue is reaching app icons or the notification shade rather than typing, check the system-wide one-handed mode in your OnePlus display settings instead. Gboard's setting only affects the keyboard layout, not the rest of the screen.

Make sure Gboard is set as your active keyboard, then reopen the text field. If it still stays full width, revisit SettingsSystemLanguages & inputVirtual keyboardGboardPreferencesOne-handed mode and confirm a side is selected rather than set back to off.
