Standard DNS lookups on Android run over plaintext UDP by default, so your Wi-Fi router, network operator, or mobile carrier can log every domain you visit before the connection even starts. OxygenOS lets you override this at the system level with Private DNS, which wraps each query in TLS encryption so only you and the resolver you choose can read it.

Once enabled, the setting applies across every app and network, unless the Wi-Fi you are connected to actively blocks encrypted DNS traffic, which some corporate or public hotspots do. If a website suddenly stops loading after you switch providers, the hostname you entered is probably unreachable or misspelled - switching back to Automatic confirms whether the network itself is the issue.

To turn it on: Open the SettingsTap on Wi-Fi & networkTap on Private DNSChoose Automatic or Private DNS provider hostname and enter the appropriate dataTap on Save.

Automatic mode uses whatever encrypted resolver your current network already supports, while entering a provider hostname manually locks in a specific service regardless of which Wi-Fi or mobile network you connect to next.
