OnePlus: Set Up a Manual Proxy for Wi-Fi

If your OnePlus phone seems to have no proxy option at all, you are looking in the wrong place. The setting only shows up once you open the properties of a Wi-Fi network you are already connected to. Without a valid proxy host name and port, the connection will simply fail to save.

Set Up a Proxy Server auf OnePlus

On OnePlus phones the proxy option is not part of the main Wi-Fi & network menu, which is why many users think OxygenOS removed it. In reality it only appears inside the advanced settings of a network you are already connected to.

Once configured, every request sent over that Wi-Fi network is routed through the proxy server you specify instead of going directly to the internet. This is different from a VPN: a proxy only affects the app-level traffic and does not encrypt the connection, so it is mainly useful for filtering, logging, or reaching internal company resources.

To reach the setting, open SettingsWi-Fi & networkWi-Fi ➔ open the connected network's settings ➔ EditAdvanced optionsProxy (shown as None by default) ➔ choose Manual or Proxy Auto-Config ➔ enter the required data ➔ Save.

With Manual you enter the proxy host name and port yourself, plus optional bypass rules. Proxy Auto-Config instead loads a PAC file URL that defines the rules automatically. At minimum, the host name and port must be correct, otherwise the network will refuse to save the change and fall back to a direct connection.

Keep in mind the proxy only applies to this specific Wi-Fi network. Switching to another network or to mobile data bypasses it completely, and some apps that use their own network stack may ignore the system proxy entirely.

Frequently asked questions

The proxy option is hidden inside the properties of a Wi-Fi network you are already connected to, not in the main Wi-Fi & network list. Open Wi-Fi ➔ tap the connected network ➔ EditAdvanced options to find Proxy.
