Setting Up a Wi-Fi Hotspot with Custom Name and Password auf OnePlus
By default, a OnePlus phone assigns a generic hotspot name based on the device model when you first turn on Wi-Fi hotspot sharing. No password is required to set at that point, which leaves the connection open or reused from an earlier session.
This happens because the hotspot function under Oxygenos creates a placeholder identity the moment it activates, without asking you to personalize it. You have to change the name and password manually inside the hotspot settings.
To do this, open Settings ➔ Wi-Fi & network ➔ Hotspot & tethering ➔ Wi-Fi hotspot. Tap Hotspot name, enter the name you want and confirm with OK. Then tap Hotspot password, enter your own password and confirm again with OK.
Any device currently connected to the hotspot loses its connection right away, since the shared network no longer exists under its old name. Reconnect each device manually using the new name and password.
If devices can't stay connected at all rather than just losing the old network, the problem is usually your mobile data connection, not the hotspot name or password, since hotspot sharing depends on active data.
