Show or Hide Password Characters While Typing auf OnePlus
OxygenOS briefly reveals each character you type into a password field before switching it to an asterisk. This behavior comes from the Show passwords toggle inside the privacy settings, and it exists to help you spot typos while entering long or complex passwords.
To change the setting, open Settings, then tap Privacy, and switch Show passwords on or off. Turning the toggle off hides every character immediately, so the field only ever shows dots or asterisks.
Disabling the preview adds a layer of protection when you type passwords in public, on public transport, or in shared workspaces where someone could be watching your screen. The trade-off is that you lose the visual check that catches accidental keystrokes, so typos become harder to notice until the login fails.
Leave the option enabled if you mostly unlock accounts at home or trust your surroundings, since the brief character preview speeds up password entry. Switch it off before entering banking or work credentials in a crowded place.
