Special app access on OnePlus phones covers permissions that go beyond the usual camera, contacts, or location requests. It includes things like displaying over other apps, changing system settings, or running without battery restrictions in the background.
These permissions are grouped separately because they affect how the whole system behaves, not just one app's own data. An app that can display over other apps can show floating windows or pop-ups anytime, even outside its own interface. An app allowed to modify system settings can adjust brightness, do-not-disturb rules, or other device behavior without asking each time.
To review or change these permissions, open Settings ➔ Apps & notifications ➔ Special app access. Each category lists every app that has requested that specific permission, along with a toggle to allow or block it per app.
Revoking an access here does not uninstall or disable the app itself. It only removes that one specific capability, so features tied to it may stop working until you turn the access back on.
If an app misbehaves, shows unwanted overlays, or drains battery in the background, checking this list first is faster than digging through the app's own settings menu.
