OnePlus: Enable or Disable TTY Mode in the Phone App

If a hearing or speech aid device cannot connect to calls on your OnePlus, TTY mode is probably switched off in the Phone app. Without it, the phone cannot convert voice to text or text to voice during a call, which makes standard calling unusable for TTY users. The setting sits in the accessibility options of the Phone app and is off by default.

Enable or Disable TTY Mode auf OnePlus

TTY mode lets a OnePlus phone convert speech to text and text to speech during a call, so a TTY device or app can communicate over a standard voice connection. It is meant for users who rely on a teletypewriter or a similar text relay service instead of, or alongside, normal audio calling.

The setting lives inside the Phone app rather than the general system accessibility menu, so it is easy to miss. If TTY calls fail to connect properly or the other side hears nothing, check whether the mode is active before assuming a network or hardware issue.

Where to find TTY mode

Open the Phone app and tap the Menu icon. Go to Settings, then open Accessibility. Tap TTY mode and choose to enable or disable it from there.

Once enabled, the phone routes call audio through the TTY protocol, which can slightly change how regular voice calls sound. If you do not use a TTY device, leave the option disabled to keep normal call audio quality.

Turn TTY mode off again through the same path if calls sound distorted or a connected TTY accessory is removed.

Frequently asked questions

TTY support depends on the carrier network, not just the phone. Some carriers only support TTY over specific call types, so contact your carrier if TTY mode is enabled in Accessibility but calls still fail to convert text.
